Why don't Baptists wear crucifixes?

The Baptists believe that the cross is now empty because Jesus rose from the dead. As for religious jewelry, Baptist wear crosses but do not wear crucifixes for that reason.

I don't promote the use of a crucifix because our Lord has risen. He was not left dead on the cross. He was put in a tomb and rose three days later back to life. So to constantly look upon the dead Jesus on the cross is only half the story.The Lord Jesus Christ is risen so we show an empty cross. The Cross itself is the sign of our salvation. For as the cross was the place of the perfect sacrifice...it has become the sign of the tool by which our salvation was accomplished. The cross itself is nothing except a reminder that our Lord suffered and died upon it to give us life eternal.Amen...

Baptists, like other Protestants, don't wear crucifixes because it goes against the teachings of John Calvin (one of the main reformers). Calvin believed that any image of God was idolatry. Therefore, if you go in a Baptist church, you won't see any Stations of the Cross, images of the Holy Family, or Jesus on the Cross. They leave it empty because it is their way of showing that He is risen and no longer on the Cross.

However, Catholics (like myself) keep Jesus on the Cross, not to say that He is not risen but to remind ourselves of the suffering he did FOR us. A lot of Protestants will tell you otherwise and make you think the Crucifix is "wrong".
