Why do pentecost women wear long dresses all the time?

In The Bible in 1timothy 2:9 it says " In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;"

according to the past women wore skirts and not pants. pants (for women) began as a rebellion. in fact the women that invented "bloomers" in the early 1900's never married her husband and in stead had her children 0ut 0f wed l0ck.

First as a Pentecostal pastor, let me state that NOT all Pentecostal denominations holds to this teaching. Just like the Baptists, there are different denominations with-in the umbrella word of Pentecostals.

For example : Assemblies of God,

Church of God,

Foursquare,

Church of God of Prophecy,

Church of God in Christ,

Apostolic,

Holiness,

etc.

Those who are Pentecostal and adhere to the idea also adhere to the idea of not cutting their hair and use 1 Corinthians 11:3-15 as their reasoning. However, there is a great debate about how those very few scriptures are to be interpreted. For a better understanding on the debate Google "1 Corin. 11:3-5 debate among Pentecostals".

But there is a HUGE difference in beliefs when it comes to pants, make up, hair cutting between Pentecostals and Holiness Pentecostals. To get a better understanding between the two, I would HIGHLY suggest a Google search on "The differences between Pentecostals and Holiness Pentecostals"

So I will end it with this, MOST Pentecostal denominations DO allow wearing of pants and not just dresses for women. Those who don't are a small portion of the Pentecostal group. Some that do NOT allow wearing of pants but only dresses, are the Holiness and Apostolic.

The Pentecostal denomination believes that women should wear modest apparel that does not pertain unto a man. (see Deuteronomy 22:5) Wearing of blue jeans or slacks would be an item of clothing that would pertain to a man. Also clothing that is worn cannot show a lot of skin thus the long skirts.

However, not all Pentecostal denominations require one to wear a long skirt to attend their service or join their congregation. In my own opinion, whether or not to make the decision to wear skirts or pants is totally between the person and God. We all have to work out our own salvation.

Another reason for this is because the children of Israel were commanded to come out from among the world around them and be separate. There should be a distinction between those professing Christianity and the world.

The modesty of long dresses is admirable when done in the right spirit.

The lack of makeup holds the same.

The Pentecostal Religion has changed so much over the years, I will explain what I know of some about the way they dress.

Being raised Pentecostal, it was taught that a woman was not allowed to cut her hair, for the glory of God is in a woman's hair and therefore if a woman were to cut her hair, she would inevitably cut Gods Glory.

Women were not allowed to wear pants, as this was a Man's Garment and in Deuteronomy, there is a verse that states, A woman shall not wear that which pertaineth to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's garment.

Women were not allowed to wear short dresses (overly short) because the showing of the "legs" too much was considered sexual and an abomination to God.

Jewelry on a man or a woman was considered a way to "show off" and there for it was pride, one of the deadly sins.

Men must have short hair, long hair was for Women and a woman's long hair also showed her subordination to God and Man, Man having long hair was an abomination to God.
