They should... However, the question that still causes heated debates is wether or not the should be in combat, which the shouldn't. Its factual that men are stronger than women so they are more able to serve long missions and survive physical combat. I realize that some women are physically equivalent to men, but that is a rarity and it would be too costly to provide accomodations to the 2% of women that exhibit the same signs of strenght. My name is SPC Lynne and I am a woman proudly serving as a 68S in the Reserves (prevenitive medical specialist) and I know that women are just as able to fill certain roles and more able to fill others (such is being a health care personel because people generally respond better to female nurses, doctors, and dieticians), but infantry and special forces are not one of them.

The age for everyone to join the military is 17, but for all of the branches you need a high school diploma. The Army sent me a letter saying they can take you in with a 10th grade education but you still need to be 17. Women were permanently allowed to join the military in the late 1940's.
Is it true that if you are the only boy in your family you can't join the Army?
No. It is possible that if you are the only son, and the draft were reinstated, under Army policy you could receive a waiver. This however does not apply to enlistment as I am an only son and served.
