The importance of Good Friday is that "Jesus Christ" (God-Man) died on the cross and brought end to the SIN & sins of mankind. Set the whole world FREE. Broke the power of death and its sting. Jesus Christ had paid a great price for every single soul that receive Him as Lord & Saviour. The Enemy of mankind the Satan/Devil was judged on that day. Jesus Christ overcame him and defeated Him by His resurrection on the third day. The only SURE HOPE for humanity. Anyone in Christ Jesus - the fear of death had been removed. The physical death is the threshold to enter into a glorious life.

I would have to surmise that The Purpose of Good Friday means roughly What Is One Supposed to Do on Good Friday. That presupposes that there is someone or something deciding what is appropriate behavior, or possibly that the individual person himself decides what is appropriate behavior on Good Friday.

I would not immediately discount my learned friend's statement above, Good Friday Is To Have Sex. For some people, those not religiously motivated for example, Good Friday is a holiday that means nothing more than time off from work, so it is a perfectly reasonable to see Good Friday as a time to catch up on one's love life.

In Louisiana, it is traditional in some communities to throw a big party and invite hundreds of your most intimate friends over to eat boiled crawfish, known in other parts of the world as crayfish.

Of course, Practicing Christians are more likely to see the purpose of Good Friday as an opportunity for prayer and reflection, but this does not mean that practicing Christians would necessarily eschew sex, boiled crawfish, or some other licit pursuit, even on Good Friday. But, a practicing Christian would probably not neglect his prayers and reflections on Good Friday. And he might even postpone the fun and games until Easter or later. That just seems to be more appropriate somehow.

Good Friday is the day upon which Jesus took the sin of mankind, future and past, and made it his own so that if we accept his lordship then all our sins could be nullified because he has already taken them as his own so if you are a servant you technically never sinned because your sins ceased to be yours and (therefore never happened by your hand) roughly 2,000 years before you were born, sounds weird but God is God and can do anything, even the fantastic, so in short it is effectively the defining moment in time for our faith, that day was the day upon which all our hopes were fulfilled, our salvation revolves around the act committed by Jesus on that day.

For many, but not all, Good Friday also known as Holy Friday, is celebrated two days before Easter as a commemoration of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, with His dying at 3:00 PM and buried before sunset that same day. Two days after is Easter Sunday which is revered as the day of Jesus' resurrection, sometimes by sunrise services. This became official in the Roman Church in 325 AD by the Emperor Constantine.

But there are biblical proofs that this is not the day which Christ died. Additionally, no matter how you count from 3:00 PM to the dark hours of Sunday morning, can you arrive at 3 days and nights or 72 hours (only sign Christ gave of His Messiahship - see Matthew 12:39 and 16:4).

Some biblical scholars have put this event at the Wednesday, daylight portion of the Passover (Jewish days start and end at sunset) of 'Nisan 14' in 31 AD. He was in the tomb then Wednesday evening, Thursday and Friday evenings. Also during Thursday daylight, Friday and Saturday - rising just before sunset which began Sunday in the Jewish calendar. 72 hours fully.
