Country Music has basically been the music of rural America. However, in the 1920's, through the use of radio, country music was getting a bigger audience in towns and big cities across the country as well.

The creation of the Grand Ole Opry is credited to George D. Hay, who was an inventor and promoter. He became a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966.

The radio show was created to give people all across the country the chance to hear live performances by those artists who recorded the hits that they heard on the radio. The popularity of the Grand Ole Opry spread like wild fire. Soon, the Grand Ole Opry would become known as one of the "Great Institutions of Country Music."

The Grand Ole Opry will celebrate it's 83rd birthday, in October 2010. It holds the record for the longest radio show in history, and I don't think that record is ever gonna be broken!

The Grand Ole Opry was a radio show the began back in the early 1920's, because country music was beginning to get a bigger audience. In 1927, the radio show was so famous, that the original 1 hour show back in 1923, went to 3 hours each Saturday Night, that was broad-casted on WSM Radio in Nashville, Tennessee.

Not only would the show have the listeners of those folks who lived in rural areas, small towns, or in the countryside. The Grand Ole Opry would gain popularity all over in the United States in the bid cities as well.

New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles were just a few of the big cities that had fans who would tune in to the Grand Ole Opry, as well as country music fans of those who would appear on the show. The Grand Ole Opry will celebrate it's official 83rd Birthday this October, 2010. It holds the record for the longest running radio show in history. I don't think any other show will be able to beat that record!
