Ireland is near the Atlantic Ocean, so it gets a lot of rain. It is not a very hot country, so there are no deserts or arid areas. So it is a good country for growing grass, trees and plants. Much of Ireland is rural, so there is a lot of farmland in Ireland.

There's a lot of reasons why green is such an important colour in Ireland.

Ireland is often referred to as the "Emerald Isle" and green is identified with the republican and nationalist traditions in modern times. Green is a strong trend in the Irish holiday St. Patrick's Day. The green in the flag of the Republic of Ireland symbolises Irish republicanism dating back to the Society of United Irishmen in the 1790s.

You could also say green is a big part of Ireland because of the symbolism of the shamrock. The shamrock was chosen to be Ireland's national emblem because of the legend that St. Patrick had used it to illustrate the doctrine of the Trinity. The Trinity is the idea that God is really three-in-one: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. St. Patrick demonstrated the meaning of the Three-in-One by picking a shamrock from the grass growing at his feet and showing it to his listeners. He told them that just as the shamrock is one leaf with three parts, God is one entity with three Persons. The Irish have considered shamrocks as good-luck symbols since earliest times, and today people of many other nationalities also believe they bring good luck.

Ireland is actually a very green country with lots of green land, you could say green can also represent how lush and pure the land of Ireland is. And since it rains a lot in Ireland, the Irish can at least say that their land is very healthy and beautiful. The beautiful green landscape was probably the inspiration for the national color of colour of green. Wearing the color green is considered an act of paying tribute to Ireland. It is said that it also brings good luck, especially when worn on St. Patrick's Day. Many long years ago, playful Irish children began the tradition of pinching people who forgot to wear green on St. Patrick's Day and the tradition is still practiced today.

Most people truly believe that it's purely the fact of the country being so green and landscaped that the colour green was chosen as the national colour. There is no real known reason.
