King George III was on a variety of gold coins. From 1760 to 1816 he appeared on the obverse of all British Five Guinea, Two Guinea, One Guinea, Half-Guinea, Third-Guinea and Quarter Guinea coins. 1816 was a landmark year for British Coins for a number of reasons, one being that the old denominations were done away with, and new denominations were introduced. From 1816 to 1820 he appeared on the obverse of all British Five Pound, Two Pound, Sovereign and Half-Sovereign coins.

Amongst his many titles, King George V was the "King of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" and "Emperor of India" from 1910 to 1936 inclusive.

Other than 1933 to 1936, Sovereigns were minted for all years of George V's reign.

The British, as do many other British Empire/Commonwealth countries, put the reigning Monarch on the obverse of their coins and one, some, or all of their banknotes.
