Best Answer

Sebastian was a Christian and was also the officer in charge of Roman Emperor Diocletian's Imperial Guard. He would take food and other items to imprisoned Christians and he, himself, was taken prisoner. He was arrested, tied to a tree and shot with a number or arrows and left for dead. With the help of St. Irene he recovered full from his wounds but the Emperor ordered his soldiers to beat him to death. For a person to be a ranking officer in the Roman army and to survive numerous serious wounds, Sebastian must have been in excellent physical condition - an athlete.

Sebastian was an officer in the Roman army so had to be in top physical condition. Also, he was shot with numerous arrows when the Romans tried to execute him and he survived, something a person in poor physical condition could not have done.
