The roots of Swiss watchmaking as we know it today came from the Protestant Reformation (16th century). In light of a more precise understanding of The Bible in contrast to the understanding of the Roman Catholic understanding of the Bible, many non Roman Catholics fled their native nations for protection in Switzerland.

At the time, Switzerland was a hub for Protestant Theology, which greatly affected the whole world in a short amount of time. The idea of a precise and godly understanding of the Bible from the Reformer's point of view, came a view of making a precise watch, perfect timing so to speak. The goal in life was precision in all areas, to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
