it all comes down to personal opinion,, what do you like.

i had an art teacher once that had a really good explanation for what makes good art. he said "if it makes you feel an emotion, it is good. the worst art is art you walk past & dont even think about" for e.g. if you walk past a canvas, & it is painted bright green, with a pink stripe through the middle of it, & you stop, look at it & scream, "what a load of rubbish, my 4yr old child could have drawn that!" that is good art!, why? because it made you feel an emotion, the emotion was anger, (or many other emotions)

In order to fully answer this question, one must define "art". Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging elements in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions and intellect.

Abstract art is unique because it attempts the above without using real-world representation (objects from reality). Some consider this a purer or more primal experience with art; one that requires great skill in order to evoke an emotion/thought without imagery. However, it also receives criticism (which is what I think you're asking/implying with this question) because it is often viewed as lacking skill/talent.

That question of skill ultimately depends on how an artist's talent is measured. Is skill it the ability to evoke a response from the viewer or is it the ability to replicate reality? Each person has their own subjective response to these questions, so there can never be a definite answer.

However, a personal appreciation of a particular movement (or lack thereof) does not alter the overall significance. It is considered art because it is a product that influences the senses, emotions and intellect.
