Act 3 Scene 1 is an important scene. This scene is where the violence escalates causing so many people deaths. Tybalt is the important character because without him there would be no violence at all throughout the play/movie. Without the violence there would be no passion between Romeo and Juliet because they wouldn't have to fight for their love, it would be easy, instantly making the storyline boring.

Act 3, Scene 1 is important in "Romeo and Juliet" because it marks the turning point in the play. This is where Mercutio and Tybalt are killed, leading to the tragic events that follow. It sets off a chain reaction of events that ultimately lead to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.

Juliet's marriage had previously been arranged for her. In this scene, her mother call's her in and this is the first time that Juliet is asked, by her mother, of her opinion of the man that she is to marry. Juliet lets it be known that she does not like this. That night there is to be a feast, and her mother informs her to make it look like she does like it. Juliet responds by stating that she will honor her mother's wish, and give an outer appearance that she likes it. But, an outer appearance is all that it will be.

There are three fights in Romeo and Juliet: one at the beginning, one in the middle, and one at the end. The one at the beginning is basically to get the audience's attention and the one at the end is sometimes left out, but the one in the middle (which is actually two separate fights) is crucial to the plot. The first fight, between Mercutio and Tybalt, is essential to persuade Romeo to fight with Tybalt against his better judgement. The second, between Tybalt and Romeo, ensures that Romeo will be banished from Verona and will be unable to present himself to Capulet as his son-in-law.

It's where Romeo and Juliet meet. It wouldn't be much of a play if that didn't happen.
