RAM is like super memory. it is a lot faster then a hard drive. the more you have the faster you can open programs faster than if you did it directaly from a hard drive.
Actually mor RAM has nothing to do with the speed of a program opening since the instructions are read from the disk. It does however have everything to do with a program running faster once opened. Also, memory hungery programs like Photoshop can operate faster since more of the program and more of the object being worked on can stay in the super fast ram memory rather than having to be going back and forth to the disk for more information.
