Why is choclate bad for dogs?

In: Pets

Answer

Yes chocolate is not only bad for your dog, but also toxic to horses, parrots, cats (particularly kittens) and small rodents because of the theobromine found in chocolate which remains in the bloodstream for 20 hours or more and depending on the amount ingested by the animal they may experience epileptic seizures, heart attacks, internal bleeding and eventually death. If your dog has eaten a large quantity of chocolate take them to the vet immediately and the vet with induce vomiting within two hours of ingestion along with an antidote.

If your pet sneaks a tiny bit it's unlikely they will become ill, but may vomit or have diarrhea. If either persist for more than a few hours it's wise to take them into the vets ASAP because of dehydration.

Keep the chocolate away from pets! During holidays keep the chocolates and nuts up high where the dog can't get them or, train your dog to lay on their mat or go into another room.
