Good Friday and Jesus Our LordGood Friday is the day commemorating Jesus Christ's death on the Cross, which is probably to be dated April 3, A.D. 33. In the liturgical calendar of the Western church, it is the Friday before Easter. The exact origins of the name are uncertain; some argue it stems from the use of "Good" as an adjective applied to the day, which is an Old English synonym for "holy." Others argue it is a corruption of the word "God," in the same way that "Good Bye" comes from the phrase "God be with ye."

Christians believe the day is "good" because the message of Easter is of Christ's victory over sin, death, and the devil; as the Apostle Paul wrote: "Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us." It is believed that, in Jesus' death on the Cross, He took once and for all the sins of all mankind upon Himself, in our place. This gift He extends to everyone who will believe in Him. Believing in the Good News of the Gospel is our hope. Jesus, the Son of God, who died for our sins, was raised again for our justification, we who believe being made in right stead with God.

However, the term "Good Friday" is only used by Western Christians, and not by Eastern Orthodox Christians. The Orthodox refer to this sacred day as "Great and Holy Friday."

We human beings are amusing. We call the day ‘good’, when Jesus was crucified for reasons best known to whoever labelled this day as Good Friday. Some people, however, call it black Friday. And then, in two days, we celebrate Easter. We human beings want to experience the cycle of pleasure and pain. We create mythological stories, that give us happiness but we don't go deep within to understand the truth of the scriptures . What is the meaning of ‘God lives in the temple of your heart’ - Corinthians 3:16-17; that ‘the kingdom of God is within you’, Luke 17:20-21? All these tell us that God is birthless and deathless. Celebrating Christmas is a matter of enjoying Santa Claus, celebrating with wine and food and jingle bells, but in reality, when will we realize that God lives in the temple of our heart? Therefore every day is a good day, and why Good Friday is called good when actually we mourn the crucifixion of our God is a matter we should contemplate. We should realize the Truth!

Because we rejoice that Jesus gave his life for us and let humans live. Other wise it'd be named something else.

God is good, Jesus is good, all good things are from God in heaven. It is good that we have salvation and a path to God. The suffering that he endured was beyond sad though. Our ultimate hero.
