Why is it hard to keep a man in his early 40s when you are in your early 30s and he has gone through marriage and divorce?

This is not a general thing as there are some men after marriage and divorce that choose not to date at all, choose to date but vow to never marry again and some would have no problem committing in anyway. The man you are trying to date has his own personal preference may want to be with someone but may not want the commitment, relationship or monogamy aspects at this point as then it is a controlled environment which is what he may want to avoid. He obviously went through something that he would likely prefer not to go through again which may have put a slight barrier there for anyone trying to date him which at this point happens to be you. He just wants to relax, have fun and enjoy company without all the strings and responsibilities or pressures that are seemingly being put on him - you can't reverse, fix or change what he has already been through. Try to just date him if you want to be around him and just relax, be casual and enjoy things you may find things will seem better. If you want more or expect more for the future this may not be the person you want to be with as they likely won't be able to give you what you want and will have to move on.
