White light is made up of equal parts of three primary colours; red, green, and blue (Or RGB). A banana will absorb the blue light, and then all that is left is the red and green. If you mix red and green together, you get a gold-yellow sort of colour, the same colour as a banana.

All colours in the world are made up from wavelengts of light.

When one mix RED, GREEN and BLUE in equal amounts (Lightwise) we get white.

Varying the strength of the 3, and you can actually create any sort of colour.

The banana only absorbs a minute amount of the light shining onto it.

The colour we see is the reflected light from the banana.

A banana does not actually have a colour at all. The only thing that has got colour is light.

Any object we perceive as having a colour only has got the ability to Absorb certain wavelengts of the light. Hence why we see different colours on different objects.
