At best, this could be described as an incomplete question.
Why does food cost so much - relative to....?
More information:
Unless one grows or gathers one's food directly from the earth, the cost of food includes payment to the farmer / rancher / grower, transportation costs, storage costs, processing costs, including freezing or refrigeration, canning or other preservation, cooking, baking, packaging and additives; more transportation and storage costs, marketing and advertising costs and finally a percentage to the retail outlet. All of these stages include multiple labor costs as well as taxation.
Nowadays, it seems that any food is expensive. Meat is expensive because you are taking one form of food (plants) to make another. It takes considerable time, care and land to grow beef to a desirable size for slaughter. Chickens take much less time and space, so it is less expensive.
Fast food is not actually that expensive. These fast food restaurants usually charge the cost of the product plus labor to make it.
McDonald's is so expensive because they have to make a profit while covering costs such as labor and marketing.
Because it's all fake junk :) enjoy!
