What makes melanomas so much more deadly than other forms of skin cancer?

Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer and the leading cause of death from skin disease.

Melanoma is the changing of the cells known as melanocytes. These cells produce the skin and hair pigment melanin (gives the tanned look to skin). A melanoma can begin as a mole or a mole already there from birth may begin to change slightly (become darker, crustier, tender).

Although Melanomas are more generally found in the elderly after years of being out in the sun unprotected the incidences in the young are rising- maybe due to excessive sunbed use, rising exposure to the sun, and the saying We're just too young, cancer is an older peoples disease and don't bother getting checked out until its too late. That's why it is so dangerous.

Melsnomas typically grow faster and deeper, and also metastasize (spread to different parts of your body) faster, whereas squamous cell or basal cell carcinoma may never metastasize (though some do).
