Mercantillism~When everything is done for the good of the Mother Country.
Ex: The 13 Colonies (Southern, Middle, New England) they were all gathering raw materials to ship back to Britan (British), to be transformed into everyday items. Then they were shiped back to the 13 colonies. The 13 colonies then sold them for a profit. (which was shared with the mother country.
Helping the mother country was important back then, only because there really was no choice other than making the crown (royalty) happy

The Colonies were important because they supply Great Britain raw resources and material.

The British used Mercantilism in relation to their North American Colonies. The principle is that the mother country, in this case Britain, would take in raw materials and resources for a low cost, if any, to produce finished goods to sell and make a profit off of. This wasn't an ideal situation for the new colonies and is part of the reason for the revolution.
