if it smells musty, try leaving the door open so it will dry quicker
we have a duet front-loader, and it will smell musty if we leave the door shut, so we leave it open for an hour or two after washing clothes to let it dry out
perhaps your washing machine is slightly rusty. the water shouldn't be rusty. hope this helps x
Buy Affresh, it is sold at most supermarkets. 3 large tablets to a pack. I placed 2 tablets in the washing machine and ran thru the washing cycle using HOT water. If you have time you can let the machine agitate for about 5 minutes and stop the cycle letting the Affresh work by soaking for about an hour and than turn the machine back on. This will disolve the built up soap scum causing the smell. Repeat using the other Affresh tablet. If the soap scum is really bad let the Affresh work overnight and use the rinse cycle the next morning. Worked for me.
