There are many different causes to why a dog is limping. A cut on the paw or a broken nail may be responsible for the limping. Also problems affecting the bones, joints, muscles, nervous system, ligaments and tendons may be to blame for limping. The structure that you are feeling at the back of his/her leg may be a lymph node. Your dog needs to be examined by a veterinarian in order to find out what the underlying problem is. Remember limping generally means that there is pain. When not treated, diseases often get worse, last longer. The faster your dog sees a veterinarian, the quicker he/she will be better. Dr N. J.
