When a solid is melted it keeps its mass. It's the VOLUME that is slightly different. The density of most solids decreases slightly as temperature increases because solids expand when heated. As the temperature of the Solid Silver increases the volume increases slightly, even before the silver melts. This is due to the increased vibration of the silver atoms.

Is liquid magma less dense or more dense?

Liquid magma is more dense than the solid material around it.

Can a solid be more dense than a liquid?

Certainly. Think about something solid such as a stone, will that sink or float in a liquid like water it will sink so it is more dense

Does solid argon or liquid argon have a greater density?

Solid Argon is more dense than the liquid phase

What happens when you put a less dense soild and a more dense liquid together?

solid will be settling at the bottom because liquid can not be denser than solid due to their arrangements of their molecules.

What is more dense a gram of gold or a kilogram of silver?

The more dense its one kilogram of silver and the more better in durability and color it's solid white gold!

Is water more dense as a solid then a liquid?

No, less dense. That's why ice cubes and bergs float.

If you place a piece of solid silver into a container with liquid silver would it float or sink and WHY?

It would sink, solids are more dense than liquids almost always. water is one exception.

How do water's relative densities an a solid a liquid deffer from that most other substances?

Solid water, ice, is less dense than liquid water and floats on top. The solid state of other substances is more dense than the liquid state and will sink in the liquid.

Does sound travel faster through a solid liquid or gas and how?

Solid. Because it's more dense.

How is the depth an object sinks in a liquid related to the ration of the density of solid to liquid?

An object sinks if it is more dense than the liquid it displaces. So the deeper it sinks, the more dense it is than the liquid it is submerged in.

Are most materials more or less dense in their solid state than in liquid?

More dense. As a solid is formed the particles vibrate less and group closer together. One of the only exceptions to this is water. When water freezes and becomes a solid it becomes less dense which is why ice will float in your drink.
