Because that's where the answer is usually found. Many of the repair questions don't have a simple three-step solution. Some don't identify the exact make/model of vehicle. No sense in copying the text from a dozen pages (besides infringing on someone's copyright) when you can't include the illustrations and it may not be for the correct vehicle. On the other hand, many of the people told "read your owners manual" won't find their answer there. Seems the manufacturers no longer want the owners to DIY.
I agree with the opening poster. Most of the questions here are too broad and non-specific to give a good answer. For the most part, the owner's manual can answer many of the simple questions, but a good shop manual is priceless in the finer details. I for one own a BMW, and I have a Bentley Service Manual for my car. It's excellent. Between the Bentley and the original owner's manual, I can find about 90% of the answers I need. The last 10% I would have to call the dealer.
To many steps to list here. Recommend purchasing a shop repair manual for that vehicle if you want to "DIY". The shop manual will pay for itself in no time.

The shop manual gives more specifics on how to repair the vehicle correctly and includes correct capacities, torque specifications, wiring diagrams, procedural notes, and even estimated times for repairs. Without one, you may be repairing your vehicle the hard way, by guessing...... If you end up with 'extra parts' at the end of the repair, then you definitely needed a shop manual.....
