Why is the end on December 21st of 2012?

The world supposably will end on December 21st 2012, do the Maya civilization calender which happens to end on December 21st 2012. This is not necessarily the case though. The phrase go as follows.... "The world AS WE KNOW IT will end" on Dec. 21, 2012. It is simply the end of a cycle. There are many different kinds of cycles. Some are the end of an Age,while some are the end of a galactic cycle or cosmic cycle. Some believe that the end of the upcoming cycle on Dec 21, 2012, which will be marked by the planetary alignments with the center of our known galaxy, will bring a new type of light. Perhaps this will be an awakening of our Higher Selves to a new and better way of Being. As of now, no one truly knows what will happen. Some are expecting great cataclysms or an apocalypse, while others are expecting the "New Jerusalem Effect" which will usher in a time of peace, love, light and higher knowledge for all humankind. Whatever the case, I pray that we shall all be ready for whatever this time may bring.
