Why is the grass in your lawn turning yellow?

There can be many reasons your grass is yellowing.

  • Nutrient deficency, either Major (Nitrogen) or Minor (Iron, etc.)
  • Insect damage
  • Fungus
  • Soil conditions (pH, etc.)

Your best solution is to call a professional lawn care company. Most of them will give you free estimates and tell you what your lawn needs. You can then purchase their service or take the information you get and take it to your local lawn care center and DIY.

Or it may just be dog pee...

In addition to the above, it is very important to mow your grass when it is in the correct height. Mow only one third of the blade in one mowing. If you cut any more you will weaken the plant and will thus turn it yellow or brown.
