I think that's because of the families people come from. For example, your eyes are brown and so are your mom's/dad's. Or if your parents eyes both are different colors, then your eyes could be one or the other, and I think sometimes mixed.

The iris has epithelial cells, which are strongly pigmented (colored) to make it difficult for light to pass through it and to limit it only to the pupil. This improves eyesight and is so an important evolutionary advantage.

Eye color is determined by the differences in amounts and types of pigments present in the iris. Pigments are determined often by genetic alleles, however some conditions can cause a change in eye color.

I would have stopped here however you asked WHY do eyes have color, and not HOW do eyes have color. Hence you may suggest that eye color has some functionality, and you wish to query this.

There is no solid link, however empirical studies have some correlations between lighter eye colors and earlier loss of vision (ARMD). This does not necessarily mean causation (i.e. lighter eye colors cause earlier vision loss) however correlation suggests darker eye colors are somehow protected against this.

2 ANSWER: i think it is because some people might have gotten blind without the iris and pigments. the pigments are a big part of your eye and they help you see. Maybe there were these problems like these for sara and SAM? they WERE the first people here on earth. NOT adam and eve, and the had these problems and maybe, one of the problems might have been their vision. THIS IS MY OPINION OR POV so i might now be correct but these websites dont always have those FACTS.

The coloured part of the eye, or the iris, works in conjunction with the pupil (the black dot in the middle) to control how much light enters the eye. The iris has tiny muscles which enable it to dilate and constrict the pupil to allow more or less light into the eye.

The sphincter muscle lies around the very edge of the pupil. In bright light, the sphincter contracts, causing the pupil to constrict. The dilator muscle runs radially through the iris, like spokes on a wheel. This muscle dilates the eye in dim lighting. Simply put, when it is darker, it opens more, to allow more light in so that we may see better. When it is bright, it constricts to limit how much light enters the eye through the pupil, so that the more delicate parts of the eye are not damaged.

The iris is flat and divides the front of the eye (anterior chamber) from the back of the eye (posterior chamber). Its colour, texture and patterns, which are as unique as a fingerprint, come from microscopic pigment cells called melanin.

Yes, they change color often. One example is babies eyes are often blue but change to other colors. Also, the color of peoples cloths and surrounding may at times make eyes look different colors.

The iris is named after the Greek personification of the rainbow, and messenger for the Gods. Iris is the link between humanity and the Gods, and travels on the winds.

The connection between the iris of the eye and its namesake is that when observed very, very closely an incredible amount of colours can be seen.

Originally, everyone had brown eyes, which are caused by melanin. The melanin protected the eyes from the damaging effects of ultraviolet light.
