The poles are cold because every year the sun revolves around the sun. Since the poles are on the bottom and top of the earth, they don't get as much sunlight as other places do. In the winter, they are already cold and without the sun, they are frozen.
The earth is close to the sun and the northern area of the earth is farther from the sun than the southern area of the earth.
Sorry, distance to the sun has nothing to do with it - the difference in distance to the sun is only about 4000 miles which is negligible in a total distance of over 90 million miles. The reason is that at the pole, the sun, even in summer, does not get much above the horizon, less than it does in the winter of the more inhabited places.
The North Pole a long with the South Pole receive the lowest amount of insolation than any other location on Earth. Insolation is direction of sun light pointed towards Earth; the lower the amount of insolation there is, the less amount of light hits that location making it much colder.
There are two reasons:
One: They are the farthest places from the Equator. The Equator is the hottest place on Earth.
Two: They get very little sunlight, the complete opposite of the Equator, which gets TONS of sunlight.
It doesn't. The South Pole has the coldest winter. Much of Antarctica is more than 2 miles above sea level, and temperature decreases with elevation. In addition, the Arctic Ocean covers the North Pole-- and the ocean's relative warmth is transferred through the icepack and prevents temperatures in the Arctic regions from reaching the extremes typical of the land surface of Antarctica.
The ice-cold Arctic Ocean waters never really warm up during the short summer season there. Most solar heat is used in melting winter ice and snow.
The North Pole is made of ice and maritime polar air mass comes toward the pole.
The sun rises and sets once each year at the poles. Six months with no sunrises contributes to the extreme cold temperatures at the poles.
because its so far away from the equator
Gulf Stream
Colder than the North Pole is a comparison, not a metaphor.
Technically, the North Pole is not dry. It is a floating island of ice and snow, so it is really wet and cold.
because ice is breaking off from the north pole and making the water colder around Britain and that leads to colder weather
urr hardly anywhere- mostly, in the north pole and south pole because it is so cold...
Gulf Stream
Colder than the North Pole is a comparison, not a metaphor.
no
the sun is barely shining on the north pole so its really cold there
Because some animals are cold hearted. Because of this they have to stay away from cold weather and stay warm.
Because, well The North Pole is cold and the Artic is cold so it makes sense
Technically, the North Pole is not dry. It is a floating island of ice and snow, so it is really wet and cold.
because its so far away from the equator
a cold is when your really cold and a cuse is...... your so cold when your looked at the mirror you saw the north pole
because ice is breaking off from the north pole and making the water colder around Britain and that leads to colder weather
the water is so cold because its farther away from the equator and it's far north and it is closer to the north pole were its coldest.
This question is misguided. The eastern hemisphere extends from the North Pole to the South Pole, so contains cold, temperate and tropical regions.
