It could be burned from too hot food, or scraped from sharp pieces. A mild infection may be taking place. I suggest a strong solution of salt and warm water, soaking in your mouth, and not swallowed, for as long as possible, will help to reduce discomfort and treat the problem naturally. Breathing through your nose will help you to hold the mouthful of brine for a long time before you feel that you need to spit it out. Also gargle a small amount at the back of your throat, to fight the same bacteria which may be located there and giving you bad breath.

It could be a number of things. Most likely, it is a blister or cut of some sort. Have you burned the inside of your mouth recently or do you have a tooth problem? If so, then it is probably a result of that incident. However, if it does not heal in a reasonable amount of time, contact your doctor or dentist.

If the roof of your mouth is swollen and sore, it could be from eating or drinking something that was too hot. Try to apply something cold like a popsicle to help treat it.
