Arsenic occurs naturally in soil and groundwater in many places throughout the world. It is not uncommon for drinking wells to have elevated/unsafe arsenic levels, which is why you should get your well water tested by your state public health lab.
Additionally, arsenic-/lead-based pesticides were used in the past several decades by the agricultural industry. Though the practice may have stopped, the metals remain in the soil and are absorbed by the trees along with the potential contaminated groundwater.

∙ 12y agoYes, apple juice does contain a little bit of arsenic. This information comes from the FDA in a test done in November, and the result were let out in early December of 2011.
A little more...A certain amount of arsenic occurs naturally, and is present in the air, water and soil. The FDA sampling cited above noted that about 11% of their 88 samples exceeded the EPA guidelines for water (10ppb), but not the existing FDA guidelines (23ppb). All sources agree that drinking normal quantities of apple juice are not harmful. They also point out that, considering the current American dietary, apple juice (like other juices) constitutes more of a health hazard due to its calorie load than presence of arsenic.Wiki User
