Why is there black cloudy exh aust coming out of the tail pipe on your 92 roadmaster wagon also loss of power and poor mileage? In: Buick Roadmaster |
[Edit] |
Answer
Black exhaust is typical of a sticking injector, dirty air filter or some other problem which causes a rich mixture.
A catalytic converter "burns" any remaining hydrocarbons that have made it past the engine combustion process. The catalytic converter is intended to clean up MODERATE amounts of extra hydrocarbons, typically caused by small problems associated with engine tune-up problems. Sticking injectors or dirty air filters can cause a rich burn condition that would cause the power loss, poor mileage and the black exhaust.
Answer
Catalytic converter might be clogged. Catalytic converters become clogged over time Causing thick black puffs of smoke, loss of power, eventual stalling and hard starting, I know this from personal experience. It can cause so much loss of power you have to keep the accelerator depressed to keep the engine running. A clogged cat creates too much back pressure, forcing the engine to strangle itself.
