Why is there more national pride shown in hockey than in other major sports? In: Ice Hockey |
[Edit] |
Answer
I believe there is more national pride shown in hockey than in other major sports because hockey itself was introduced/invented in Canada, and Canadians continue to dominate the game.
Answer
Ummm....ever hear of soccer (football to everywhere but Canada and the US)?
Attend a match (game) somewhere outside North America, and you'll see national pride that blows hockey away.
(not being a wise-guy, hockey is my favorite sport, but wow was the crowd riled up when I attended a game in England)
Answer
Hockey has more International series and tournaments than in baseball, basketball, or American football, all of which NEVER have teams from other countries playing, with the exception of the Toronto Blue Jays in baseball.
The world series in baseball is a joke, with NO teams from out side North America. The same for the NFL and the NBA, no teams except Americans.
Compare that to IIHL or Olympic hockey with teams from places like Russia, Finland, Sweden, and Ukraine.
AS Wayne Gretsky has said........" there is no greater thrill than playing for, and representing, an ENTIRE COUNTRY, instead of just one city".
Answer
I Love Hockey. But go see a football game between i.e. Germany vs England, Croatia vs Serbia or Argentina vs Brazil to get some perspective. Now, there are emotions you wont see anywhere else.... If you want to see national pride on stake in hockey, you have to see Sweden vs Finland. Two neighbors that cannot bear a loss against the other...
