Dehydration can cause urine to feel thicker. If a person is pre-diabetic or diabetic, they often "spill" glucose (blood sugar) into the urine; the kidneys can't process the blood sugar overload. So the urine would feel stickier then, too.
You should probably ask your doctor to do an A1C (A one C) blood test. The A1C gives a look at the last 3 months and is a great test to reveal Diabetes.
