You should be able to play the .wmv clip without difficulty in Windows Movie Maker since that is a format that is compatible with the program.
Check to make sure the file is actually a .wmv extension first (right-click the file and choose Properties from the drop-down menu).
If it is actually a .wmv file format, then you might consider re-installing your version of Windows Movie Maker as there may be some technical problems with the program.
