Why is your dryer blowing only cool air?

I was having the same problem, and it turned out that the dryer was overheating and shutting itself off. The problem was that the exaust hose in the back was getting blocked. In my case, it blows up and out of the roof. The exaust on the roof had a screen cover that was collecting lint. Check the path for your exaust hose.

Hair dryers have a small temperature controlled fuse. If the hair dryer heats up too much, the fuse opens up and prevents a fire. Covering the air inlet, or clogging can cause the heat to increase too much.

While you could get the fuse replaced, hair dryers are so inexpensive that it makes them uneconomical to repair.

If you are talking about clothes dryer, the problem may also be in the elecrical connections. Since dryers draw a lot of current (somewhere around 20A) they can cause connections to heat up and become resistive. Also, while the heater element in the dryer runs off 220V, the motor usually runs off 110. So, if a phase has opened up, the heater could be getting no power, while the motor is getting power from the other phase and the neutral.

Or it may be that a connection on the dryer has gone bad, or that the heater simply burned out. If you can look at the dryer wiring and know what you are looking at, check it out with a multimeter. (For the love of fat kids and chocolate unplug it first!!) Dryers arn't that complex of machines.
