It may be many different things. Make sure the contacts (the metal strips) on your SD card are not covered up.

If they aren't:

You may have it in your computer upside down.

You may have it in a card reader that isn't plugged into your computer.

If it is a mini or micro SD card you have to have it in an adapter and some adapters still expose the contacts (the metal that transfers the data) and that may cause some problems.

What does it mean when a digital camcorder has a internal memory card?

That you will have to hook up a cable to get the pictures out of the camera since the 'memory card' is built in. There is no place to insert a standard memory card.

Can you use your memory card from your camera to download your pictures on your notebook?

Yes you can - there's a number of ways you can do it:-Use a USB cable to connect the camera directly to the notebook, orIf the notebook has one, insert the memory card into the multimedia slot, orUse a USB adapter (which is how I do it) - insert the card into the adapter and insert the adapter into a spare USB port. Most versions of Windows will recognise the memory card or the camera as '...an external mass-storage device...' and you should be able to 'drag & drop' the pictures you need.

How do you put pictures on to your memory card if it has internal memory?

Cameras will typically prefer to store pictures on a memory card if one is present inside of the device. However, if a memory card isn't present, it will attempt to use any available internal storage. Transferring files from the internal memory to a memory card will be different and may not even be easy to do (it all depends on your camera). One thing you can do, if the files are stored on your internal memory, is to remove any memory cards that exist, and plug the camera into the computer with the camera power ON. The camera will usually show up as a drive under 'My Computer', and you can then move the files from your camera onto your computer. Once you are done, you can then try to power the camera off, insert a memory card into it. And then power it on. You may be able to move files onto your memory card this way. If your computer has a memory card slot, you can also just insert the memory card into the slot and move pictures onto it that way.

What if the camera has no internal memory?

Most digital camera's on the market nowadays need a internal memory card. These may come in various forms like compact flash, SD cards, Memory sticks, etc. You will need to find the brand and model to help you find out what kind of memory card you will need. Most digital camera's will tell you what kind of memory card it takes where you insert it on the camera. The store where you bought your camera from should carry memory cards and/or they should be able to advise you in what kind to get. These memory cards can be purchase online or at many electronic or department stores. Depending on your camera's mega-pixels you may need a larger memory card to hold more photos.
