Many students go to college with no real goal in mind and go to "party". Without a reason for college nothing is accomplished. Our society has gotten the idea that all students need to attend college, but the sad part about this that some are not meant to go to college and they fail. The dropout rate for college students in a 2 year course of study is now 75% of the students will not finish 2 years. Only 25% of the total population have a BA/BS degree and 5% a MA/MS degree with 1% with a PhD. This means a good 80% of the total population do not have a college education. Many high schools also do not prepare students for the rigors of college and mainly prep them to pass state testing. This also creates a factor in students not finishing college since they do not have the needed background or studies to complete the tasks they are given. So, it is not any one thing that causes students not to finish.
There are a wide variety of reasons.
because they are enjoying the first year so they are unable to concentrate in studies
because the they get drug

The teacher should stop the class and re instruct the learners or question the learners and get them to verify what they should be doing.

In 1878, Jose Rizal took up medicine in the University of Santo Tomas (UST), but had to stop when he noticed that Filipino students were being discriminated upon by their Dominican teachers. He continued his studies in Spain.

People actually perform the "California stop" more than you would think. Studies have shown that only 3% of drivers over various studies have actually came to a complete stop of 0 MPH. More people just slow down at stop signs.
University classes are a huge step from high school--some students may not have the study skills or background to work independently on their subjects. The teachers are not going to track you down to attend class or turn things in. Some people who left school said they slept in for one class and then just kept on doing that. I've also read that current students average less time in the books than in the past--old school was 3 hours' study for each classday.
Yes. If the motivation is there, nothing should stop an ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patient from furthering their studies.
