Why might a circuit breaker not stay on? |
[Edit] |
Answer
You have a short circuit. Somewhere a hot wire is connected directly to ground. CALL AN ELECTRICIAN!!!
Answer
Unplug all devices and switch off all lights connected to the breaker. If breaker stays on then the wiring should be OK. Pug in or switch on lights one at a time. when the breaker trips the last thing plugged in is faulty. If the breaker trips with nothing turned on or all units trip the breaker then the wiring from the breaker to the garage is faulty.
Answer
I agree with the previous answer except that if the breaker trips with nothing plugged in, the problem may also be the breaker itself. You should check for shorts and voltage fluctuations using a VOM prior to deciding to replace the wiring. If the tests are not conclusive, replace the circuit breaker first to see if it solves your problem, since this is much easier and less expensive than replacing the wiring. Obviously, proper safety precautions must be taken. If you aren't sure what these are, leave the work to a professional.
Answer
Also, the circuit may simply be overloaded. Call an electrician.
