Why parents in the Unites States seek to adopt foreign children rather than trying to adopt in their own country? |
[Edit] |
I think there are a few possible answers to this question.
- The "help an orphan" / "savior" approach. ( Although reports from the US Embassay reflect a much different reality than many orphans being "saved" by international adoption.)
- Lessen the chances of a natural parent coming back into the child's life and reclaiming him/her and thus disrupting the adoption ( from the aparents point of view anyways)
- Not qualified to adopt domestically. ( google: masha allen )
- Better chances of getting a baby. Newborn adoption in the United States is rampant, and the availabilty of white newborns(greatest demand) is hard to come by. The next option is foster care and unfortunately a great portion of the 'demand' for a child don't want older kids who've gone through abuse and neglect causing the removal from their homes.
