electric wires are made from metals which have very low resistance to the flow of current and also which have good ductility(meaning they can be easily drawn into wires)..... some examples are gold , silver, copper etc...

of all of them, copper is relatively much abundant and is also cheap....hence copper wires are used....

Copper Use for Electrical Conductors [wires] The choice for the use of Copper for electrical conductors is based on a trade-off between several factors: * Cost of Copper versus that of other conductor materials. * Flexibility and resistance to breakage. * Availability.

Because it conducts heat, it is a conductor. In physical science, they tell you this. In electrical wiring you should use copper because it is a good conductor because if it is not a conductor then it is an insulator which copper is NOT!

Though silver is a very good conductor of electricity but still that is not used in electric wiring primarily due to its cost. It's very expensive compared to the widely used wiring material copper. Another reason for not using silver is that , it oxidizes easily and tarnishes when it comes in contact with air.

Silver is not used as transmission line because of it's price .For 1kg of silver we have to pay about 40000 and in place of copper and aluminium we have to pay about 500 to 100 per kg.

Why is silver not used for electrical wires if it is such a good conductor of electricity?

Silver is not used for electrical wires mainly for two reasons. Silver is too expensive to use and it is a soft metal which is not suitable for electrical wires.

Why silver is not used in electrical wires?

Because it is costly

Is silver commonly used for making wires?

No, copper is commonly used to make wire.

What are the material in the sequence of there electrical conductivity?

Silver is the best electrical conductor in the periodic table, next is copper. Copper is used in wires because it is nerly as good as silver, but is far cheaper.

Can silver be used to make electrical wires?

Silver is used as a low resistance conductive material. Contactors and relays contact points are made of copper and are silver plated to obtain the lowest resistance between the moving contact faces.

Out of silver copper and gold which is the best for electrical wires?

Silver is the most electrically conductive, but copper and gold are used because copper is less expensive, and gold does not corrode.

Why copper is used for counducting wires?

Out of all the common metals copper is the best electrical conductor. Only silver is slightly better.

Why can transition metals be used to make electrical wires?

Their high conductivity is why transition metals are used to make electrical wires.

Why copper is used for making electrical wire while silver is not?

Copper is the best conductor of any metal except for silver. Silver is too expensive for normal use.

What matrial is a good electrical conductor?

Silver is the best electrical conductor. Copper is second. Gold is third. Aluminum is a good conductor but not for house wiring. It is used for high tension wires.

Why is lead not used to make electrical wires?

Lead is very soft, and not a very good conductor, making it a poor choice for cabling.
