-can pollute the air if directly burned

-Expensive to install technology to process and recycle wastes

-use up too much land

-Maintaining a supply of the waste product in sufficient quantities to maintain energy production can be difficult

-the burning of biomass produces greenhouse gases, which is dangerous for our earth

-some waste materials may only be available during seasonally (example: at harvest time)

- Could put environments at an even greater risk
