Generally speaking, years that are evenly divisible by 4 are leap years. However years that are evenly divisible by 100 are not leap years, unless they are also evenly divisible by 400, in which case they are leap years

2000 mod 4 = 0

2000 mod 400 = 0

So 2000 was a leap year, as was 1600. 1700, 1800 and 1900 were not. 2100, 2200, 2300 will not be leap years; 2400 will be.
