Why was Christmas banned in Russia?

[Edit]

Christmas was banned in Russia probably because when Stalin had taken over he wanted to have control over the people. He did not want a war to happen with the people so that is why he banned religion and language. People had to learn Russian and give up their old language. He had banned all religious services, he did not want people to know other people's religion because that could cause tensions with the people. That is why Christmas was banned. However, people probably still celebrated this holiday secretly in their homes.
