Henry Clay, who was called the Great Compromiser, didn't really have one specific say on the slavery issue. His nickname was given to him because he was the kind of guy who wanted to make everyone happy. His personality is what led to the Compromise of 1850 because, he wanted to make the south happy by having slave states enter the Confederacy, and the north happy by having non slave states enter the Union.
