Winnie the pooh was a teddy bear that a boy named Christopher Robin had. As a young boy, Christopher Robin and Pooh went everywhere together in there own world of make believe. Christopher Robin's father was an author and used his son's love for Winnie the Pooh to create the now famous Winnie the Pooh books. Walt Disney loved these books so much, that he decided to make them into an animated movie.

Winnie-the-Pooh, commonly shortened to Pooh Bear, is also known as Edward Bear. He was a fictional character created by A. A. Miline. The Walt Disney Company adapted Winnie The Pooh as a television show for children. Miline also wrote several stories revolving around Pooh, including Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) and The House at Pooh Corner (1928). He was also featured in several poetry pieces by Miline called When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six. Pooh soon became very popular and as a result became the first foreign-language book to be featured on the New York Times Bestseller List in 1960, as it had been translated into many langauges, among them including the Latin version of the book: Winnie ille Pu, published in 1958. Miline named Winnie the Pooh after a stuffed teddy bear that his son, Christopher Robin Miline, owned. His son was also in the book, portrayed by the character Christopher Robin. Most of Christopher's toys lent the names to many characters in the book, except for Owl and Rabbit, who were made based on real animals, and Gopher, who was only added to the story later on in the Disney version. These toys are now on display at the Main Branch of the New York Public Library in New York. Christopher Miline originally named his bear Winnipeg, after a bear that he and his father had often seen at the zoo. The bear, Winnipeg, was purchased by a Canadian Lieutenant Henry Colebourn in White River, Ontario. The lieutenant named the bear after his hometown, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
