Singapore was protected by 20+ big cannons. Some can shoot as far as 42km! It was also protected by the 2 battle cruisers which were thought to be unbeatable as the HMS Prince of Wales had the latest air-tracking systems present at that time. The British thought that the seas were controlled as both the guns and the ships were protecting the sea from invasion. The British also had 137,000 soldiers, from Great Britian, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Nepal, India, Malaya and even some from Singapore.Their 130+ Brewster Buffolos were thought to be the most advanced at that point and could control the skies.
it is because Malaya is a factor of Singapore's defence. the coastal plains were roughly fifteen miles in width and filled with mangrove swamps. the mountain range which runs from north to south is covered with dense jungle and vast areas which are mostly unknown. roads are few and are heavily guarded, so that an invading army would be at mercy of the defenders securely hidden in the jungle.

"Impregnable" means unable to be captured or entered by force, as in a fortress or stronghold. The prefix "im-" in "impregnable" is a negative prefix, meaning "not" or "without," so "impregnable" essentially means "cannot be penetrated."
