There was an increase of child labour in the Industrial Revolution, cuz they were more active and they can be manipulated. They can be tricked. They have nibble fingers that can be out into machines to mend problems such as jams', etc. Most of the machines as often designed to be controlled by children plus the children can crawl under machines and into them when told. THe are young and quick. They have fresh minds hence they are able to learn quickly from the Owners. There are many more reasons but this is the main reasons...

But, unfortunately most of the child labor's have lost lives due to Health and Safety

some had to work to help their family since their parents made so little money. there were no child labor laws, so most kids had to work in horrible conditions and they had to do the most dangerous jobs. they were allowed because it was a different time, it wasnt odd for children to work they have been doing it for a long time.

Women and children were considered chattle -- akin to livestock not quite slavery but not so different. Property of the father or husband with property rights such as the ability to buy or sell. So children could be sold into apprenticeships or hired out to factories.

Nowhere in Britain or the USA, where the Industrial Revolution took place, were women or children considered chattel, or property, or "sold" AT THAT TIME. A century before, perhaps, but not at that time.

Children were considered ideal workers for certain types of manufacturing because of their small stature, small hands and small fingers could allow them to access parts of machinery that adults could not easily reach.

The poor needed the income and the industrialists needed cheap labor.

As long as these conditions existed the practice would continue.
