Education was important to freedmen because it was important to the free man to learn and have the opportunity to expand their minds as being a slave they were denied the right to be educated.

i think the answer is that the service of eduction helped the former slaves by giving them a better life and making people want to rise an be in the office and change things.

because after the civil war freed slaves still had many problems and most African Americans didn´t went to schoolso they cant read and write.
