The temple was was built under the direction architect Senemut, for Queen Hatsheput. In addition to being for her burial chamber, it was dedicated to the sun god Amun-Ra the "King of Gods", the supreme deity in ancient Egypt. The Romans sacked Egypt and realizing Amun's power and influence, incorporated Amun into their own supreme god--Zeus, to become one.

Mortuary temples are dedicated to the Pharaoh who built it. They worship the deitified Pharaoh after his death, preserve the memory of the Pharaoh (as at some point they believed that you needed your name to be remembered in order for you to reach the after life) and honour and appease his soul. They may have chapels in them however to deity's. An Example of a Mortuary Temple is Medinet Habu, built by Rameses 3.Cult Temples are dedicated to a deity and are often the homes of that deity's cult. They are also considered the home of the Deity on earth.An Example of a Cult Temple Complex is Karnak, dedicated to Mut, Khonsu and Amun, among others.The main difference is that Cult temples are for deity's and Mortuary temples are for dead Pharaohs.

A mortuary temple is where the dead pharaoh's spirit would worship, and the Mortuary temple was often used as a storehouse for their goods.
