The Republican party was founded in 1854 by anti-slavery activists. There primary goals of the time were to resist corruption and aristocracy. All Republicans of time were very opposed to slavery. The Democratic party was the only major political party of the time and was all for slavery and corruption and aristocracy. I'm not kidding. The Republican party was founded to stop there behavior and attempt to establish morals and freedom in America. still today Republicans fight for freedom and against socialism, that is , the Government controlling your life and telling you what you can and can't do. Recently, Democrats have been pushing for government control and socialism. The next good question is: why was the Democratic party formed! Currently, the Republican party is the largest political party in America, the Democratic party is the second largest.
