New York state was one of the original states to have blue laws, Senator Grapec brought the concept to use the Blue bird in honor of this fact. In the late 1990's there was a push to change the state bird, but many felt due to the heavy taxation placed upon the residents, it made them feel Blue, and the Bird remains as our State bird.
